In her next foray to the big screen, Sydney Sweeney enters a terrifying tale with a religious perspective. The trailer shows clear allegories to the figure of Mary; although in this film, the virginal pregnancy of a nun seems to unleash a myriad of horrors. The title of the film is Immaculate, and it's a psychological thriller under the direction of Michael Mohan, who previously worked with the actress in the erotic suspense fiction The Voyeurs. The U.S. release date is March 22.
According to the official synopsis, Cecilia is a devout nun who moves to a remote convent in rural Italy. What at first seems like a warm welcome turns into a nightmare after she discovers sinister secrets in the place. The protagonist appears in a habit in the official poster and the teaser expands on the sacral context that takes the Euphoria star out of the roles she has been known for so far.
"I know that God saved me for a purpose, but I still don't know which one," the protagonist expresses in the clip. Before long, a strange event comes to light. She has become pregnant and apparently "it's a miracle". However, deaths, nightmares and eerie visions surround Cecilia. "To suffer is to love", constantly repeats another woman in the convent; while the distorted voice of another character predicts that she will never be able to escape from there.
As for the rest of the actors, this one counts with the presence of actors of international caliber such as Italy's Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus), Spain's Alvaro Morte (La casa de papel), Benedetta Porcaroli (Baby) and Dora Romano.
