The Mad Max saga is readying the upcoming release of Furiosa. Set for theatrical release in mid-2024, this prequel highlights the story of Imperator Furiosa, a character who became an icon following the release of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. Young star Anya Taylor-Joy will take on the role that Charlize Theron immortalized and take us through Furiosa's youthful vicissitudes. In fact, according to exclusive revelations to Empire, George Miller, creator of the film series, shared that the movie focuses on how Furiosa is taken from her home and her relentless struggle to return, spanning a 15-year span to connect directly to the events of Fury Road.
The story describes how the great Biker Horde led by Warlord Dementus captured Furiosa, marking the beginning of her trial by fire in a world devastated by the war for dominance between tyrants. Also, along this journey, Furiosa will face numerous challenges as she attempts to carve her way back home. Through an in-depth exploration of the character, the film provides a deeper perspective and establishes an extended narrative across different locations and challenges.
The feature will also feature Chris Hemsworth as the warlord Dementus, along with Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber and Lachy Hulme in key roles. In fact, the fans are excited about the presence of villains such as Immortan Joe (played by the late Hugh Keays-Byrne), reaffirming the thematic and tonal continuity with the original title. In addition, the inclusion of Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson in turn allows for the return of Rictus Erectus and The Organic Mechanic, respectively. Filming took place in Australia and cost an estimated $230 million.
Furiosa will hit theaters on May 23.
