Glen Powell has confirmed that he will return as Jake Seresin in 'Top Gun 3'. He has also announced that he already has a start date, although it is unclear whether it is the start of production or his physical preparation. Be that as it may, the 'Twisters' and 'Hitman 2: Silent Assassin' shared set with Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, with whom it seems that he will return in the near future, although he has commented that for now everything is confidential.
Powell revealed his return to aerial piloting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, in a interview with alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones for 'Twisters'. There was a question about what would come first, a sequel to 'Normal People' or 'Top Gun 3.' “I mean, I have a date," Powell said confirming his return to the Tom Cruise-starring saga. The American actor has declined to give further details due to confidentiality issues, although it was no secret that 'Top Gun 3' was in development. “Fun stuff will be announced soon…,” Powell told Variety at the Sundance Film Festival,” but it was confidential to me. I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time. Things are happening and they sound very exciting. I don't know when I'll be back…. I'm sure there will be a plane waiting for me at some point in the future.”
With Variety's announcement in January and the information given by Powell, it is clear that 'Top Gun 3' is in development by 'Top Gun Maverick' co-writer Ehren Kruger, who has signed the script for the third installment. Joseph Kosinski is also returning to direct.
