Kym Marsh Takes on Bold New Thriller Role

Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is stepping into what critics call her "raunchiest" and most daring role yet in the upcoming thriller series The Imposter. Filmed in Australia, the show features Kym Marsh as Amanda, a woman who claims to be the long-lost daughter of a seaside hotel owner.

Kym Marsh describes the project as a major departure from her previous work, including her long tenure as Michelle Connor on Coronation Street. In The Imposter, she stars alongside Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne, who plays her character's biological mother, Helen. The plot follows a bitter family dispute over a lucrative hotel, which quickly spirals into a dark scheme involving betrayal and murder.

The role requires Kym Marsh to portray a complex, "damaged" individual who uses her cunning and resilience to survive. Kym Marsh explained in a recent interview that she could not draw on any personal experiences for this character because Amanda’s actions are so far removed from her own life. She found the challenge of playing someone so different to be both exciting and refreshing.

This new series comes during a busy period for Kym Marsh. In addition to her work on The Imposter, she recently played the villainous Cruella de Vil in the 101 Dalmatians musical. She also prepare to star in the world premiere stage adaptation of the psychological thriller Single White Female starting in early 2026.

Fans of the actress have praised her for constantly pushing herself out of her comfort zone. While many still hope she will one day return to Coronation Street, her latest performances show she is fully embracing this new, darker chapter of her career.
