Jenna Ortega will no longer be part of Scream 7. Sources close to the actress confirmed to Deadline that she will not participate in the next installment of the horror franchise due to scheduling conflicts with the filming of the second season of Wednesday, in addition to the shooting of another important project in her portfolio: Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2. The change in the thriller's cast follows the departure of Melissa Barrera, a Mexican performer who was fired by Spyglass Media Group.
According to Deadline's sources, Ortega's departure was already on the table before the actors' union strike took place. This is because there is still no finished script for Scream 7 and the young woman must make a trip to Ireland for the filming of the Netflix series, which would take several months. In addition, she has yet to finish some scenes of Beetlejuice 2.
Although that is the official reason Jenna will not be in the film, her exit has coincided with the controversy surrounding the next Scream installment. The project under the direction of Christopher Landon is now without two of the faces that gained notoriety in the horror saga. On November 21, it was official that the production company Spyglass Media Group removed Melissa Barrera from the cast due to her publications on social networks about the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Ortega and Barrera joined the Scream franchise together in 2022, with the reboot of the popular slasher saga. Their characters, sisters Tara and Sam, also returned in the sixth installment that debuted this 2023. You can find the Scream V movies on Netflix and Scream VI on Star+.
