DreamWorks Animation has officially announced that Shrek 5 is in development, with a scheduled release date of July 1, 2026. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will once again lend their voices to the lead characters, Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, respectively. The film will be directed by Walt Dohrn, who has been involved in previous installments of the franchise. In information published by Variety in 2018, it was revealed that Universal Pictures commissioned Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination, to oversee the revival of the Shrek and Puss in Boots franchises. Meledandri was emphatic about keeping the original voice performances, considering that these were central to the success of the previous films.
